The woodmaker story

8/29/2015

Stumbled on this group yesterday, SO glad I did! Short rundown...took shop instead of home economics in school...was only gal in class. Prior SEABEE Steelworker. Worked with my Grandpa when he was alive with the Amish restoring and making furniture when I was little. Helped my adopted daddy when he was alive in the shop as well. Piddled around over the years, in 2008 got married. Already had my own home on VA, but we purchased another in beautiful East Texas ( miss badly) Home I had never sold, so I rented it to one of my friends. 5/5/09 I got hit, left for dead, was not supposed to survive, by 18 wheeler tanker...thankfully he was empty...husband got fired ( at time I was told lay off, found out later he lied) I got lay off from my long term job, lost home in east Texas. Moved back to my house in 2011. For 2 years he didn't work, I realized he was alcoholic. In 2014 I had enough..kicked his ass to the curb. For 2009 - 2013 I basically went to work, came home, and sat in a recliner or did things with my daughter...while he drank non stop.

I have always had these ideas in my mind...and while I love to make things...I stink at measurements...the basics I get, just planning wise...I suck...lol My X husband would never work with me to get my ideas on paper, and after a while, my self esteem to even try wasn't there.

I was cleaning out my home, getting rid of all his trash...giving away anything related to the past...even my tools...out with the old...in with the new! When I stumbled upon some steel round tubing I had forgotten about and a bunch of materials with them. Then I remembered...I had this idea for lamps....so...I stopped what I was doing...and went to work making my lamps...and before I knew it...they were done...and OMG...I was so proud of myself! Plus...so many of my friends loved them...even begged me to teach them how to make them! I was floored...for the first time in years, I got my confidence back!

Next I walked into my home...and thought...you know...I really hate my home...you see the X had put up rough cut cedar boards all around house...half drunk...doing it wrong..while I was at work...and all at 36 inch height making the house look dreary and dark.

So...I ripped every damn piece of it out, sold it on Facebook, took that money and purchased all I needed to remodel my entire home. Still in process...but OMG...yet another confidence booster. I did it ALL myself!

My boyfriend, he is awesome. He believes in me, and when I start to doubt myself, he pushes me to try. When I am unsure about how to put my ideas on paper...he helps me get them there...then I make them a reality.

I'm still petrified of failure but I am doing it anyway...... I started by listing my custom one of a kind pair of lamps for sale.
(There are no others) plus items like this hand carved table I am restoring.
I did this because I went to a 1/2 off warehouse sale for Aidan grey and saw that their cheapest piece was 500.00 for a non original mass produced piece of crap. So, I don't see why my stuff wouldn't sell.

Any ideas for business names for me to sell my unique pieces of furniture etc that I make and that I restore? I don't want to use Clardy. I never changed my name after divorce. My name before I was adopted was "Kalacanic"
